Personalized hybrid assembly as a Service (PHASE)

A subproject of the international joint research project "Manufacturing and Assembly as a Service (MAaS)".

(Project duration: 1. August 2017 to 31. July 2019)


Problem Definition

In a smart factory, flexibility, transparency and productivity are closely linked. In the future, Internet-based business platforms will automatically compare the capabilities of smart factories with customer specifications, so that a market will emerge not only for products, but also for production processes. In this environment, modular production systems will unfold their full potential. The successful introduction of production systems with these capabilities, as well as their operation, however, place special demands on the communication between all actors at field and company level as well as in the entire supply chain.

Objective and procedure

Aim of the research project is to develop an approach for establishing cyber-physical machines for individualized manufacturing and assembly. In the context of the German-Korean cooperation "Manufacturing and Assembly as a Service (MAaS)", research results from the fields of CPS and Cloud technology will be integrated into an international IoT solution.  On this basis, new services will be introduced for PDTec in connection with the personalized delivery, rental and operation of modular production systems. For the validation, application scenarios will be implemented on the Korean and German sides, both on the shop floor level and in the service layer.


Division of Labour

As part of the German subproject "Personalized hybrid Assembly as a Service" (PHASE), IPS is developing various services for cyber-physical production systems together with PDTec and validating these with the help of its own hybrid assembly system. First, the virtual image is generated and extended by relevant parameters and interfaces before it is transferred into a generic data model. This forms the basis for the personalized provision of information, graphic preparation and connection of various web applications. By implementing an interface of the platforms ice.NET and FAaS, the technologies of the subprojects will be integrated within the German-Korean cooperation project MAaS.
